Our paper, “Elinor’s Talking to Me!”:Integrating Conversational AI into Children’s Narrative Science Programming, has been conditionally accepted to CHI 2022.

In this paper, we present our project with PBSKIDS to develop interactive science-focused videos in which the main character, powered by a conversational agent, engaged in contingent conversation with children by asking children questions and providing responsive feedback. We conducted a usability study and a randomaized controlled study, suggesting the feasibility and effectiveness of using conversational technologies to better support child active learning and parent involvement.

We have another paper on building a parent-AI collaborative chatbot for storybook reading, which has received a revise and resubmit. Appreciate the super insightful feedback and we are looking forward to revising and improving the paper.
